Privacy, ownership & hand-off FAQ

Your data. Your consent. Your export.

Plain-English answers to the questions survivors, caregivers, and treating clinicians ask us most. For the full compliance posture, see the HIPAA-readiness page.

Who owns the patient data captured in the Life Spark toolkit?

The individual using the tool holds it in their own account. Your clinic never implicitly inherits their record — every clinician view or export happens through an explicit, time-limited, revocable snapshot the patient generates and hands over. Nothing is auto-pushed into your EHR, and nothing about your patients is stored under your clinic without a Business Associate Agreement in place.

What is the medical-oversight model for the Life Spark Survivorship Institute?

Life Spark is a survivorship toolkit, not a treating entity. Content, cascades, and worksheets are aligned to NCCN, ASCO, and COG-LTFU primary guidance and reviewed by our clinical advisory board. Any clinical decision, prescription, or dose change stays with the treating physician — Life Spark surfaces the signal, the clinician makes the call.

How does the hand-off from a Life Spark patient to a clinic actually work?

The patient generates a snapshot (or a printable transition-of-care PDF) from their own chart, chooses which categories to include (consent-scoped FHIR R4), and shares a one-time link or the PDF with the clinic's intake workflow. The clinical team reviews it inside its existing EHR — Life Spark is not a parallel record. Every snapshot has an expiry and a revoke button.

Does Life Spark touch PHI or transmit anything to a clinician on the patient's behalf?

No. Until a BAA is executed and administrative safeguards are complete, any feature that would put one user's PHI in front of another user (including a clinician) is locked at the code level. Cohort views for licensed clinicians are k-anonymized with a minimum cell size of 20.

How does licensing the clinician workspace work for a clinic or health system?

Per-seat, per-clinic, or health-system licenses to the clinician workspace: cascade builder, deprescribing worksheet, cardio-onc surveillance library, cohort dashboards, and FHIR R4 export shapes. Life Spark scopes on a 20-minute call, then sends terms and a BAA path. No patient-side workflow changes are required to start.

What is the CSPN relationship?

A strategic, arms-length partnership — a win-win for both organizations. Life Spark is not co-building product with CSPN, and CSPN clinicians are not co-authors of any patient's record. Interaction between patients and outside care teams does not happen inside this web app.

Still have a question?

The intake form on the home page routes survivors, caregivers, and clinicians to the right team. It includes the same consent boxes referenced above.
