Privacy, ownership & hand-off FAQ

Your data. Your consent. Your export.

Plain-English answers to the questions survivors, caregivers, and treating clinicians ask us most. For the full compliance posture, see the HIPAA-readiness page.

Who owns the data I enter into Life Spark?

You do. The record is yours. You can export it as a portable FHIR R4 bundle or a PDF transition-of-care plan at any time, and you can delete it from your account. Life Spark does not sell your data and does not share it with third parties for advertising.

Is Life Spark a HIPAA-covered entity?

Not yet. Life Spark is running a HIPAA-readiness program — administrative safeguards, Business Associate Agreements, and audits are in progress. Until that program is complete, use Life Spark with your own information (yours to keep, yours to hand off) rather than as the primary place a clinician stores another patient's PHI. See the HIPAA-readiness page for the current status.

Can I hand my transition-of-care plan to my next physician?

Yes — that is the point. You can download a one-page transition-of-care plan as a PDF, or an interoperable FHIR R4 bundle for your next clinician's EHR. Nothing is transmitted on your behalf; you decide what to share and when.

How much does it cost survivors?

The core survivor toolkit — symptom logs, distress and cognition screens, financial-toxicity screening, cardio-oncology surveillance prompts, and the transition-of-care plan — is free. There is no credit card required to start.

Who can see my record?

By default, only you. If you invite a caregiver or a clinician, you grant scoped access — and every read of your data is written to an access log only you can see. You can revoke access at any time.

What are the very first steps after I sign up?

Most survivors start with distress or sleep (five minutes, once), then add a symptom they want to trend (fatigue, neuropathy, hot flashes). After a few entries, you can generate a transition-of-care plan and download it as a PDF or FHIR bundle.

The intake form on the home page routes survivors, caregivers, and clinicians to the right team. It includes the same consent boxes referenced above.
